I agree with everything you say here except for one thing: I don’t think Canadians are anymore selfish or materialistic than Americans. If they give less to charity, it’s probably because they have such a high cost of living. I am Canadian and I moved to the US a few years ago. My husband and I can afford a much higher standard of living here, which includes owning a modest house. We couldn’t even have dreamed of owning one in Toronto, where we both had lived for decades.
My husband and is a clergyman and we continue to give a portion of our income to charity. It’s just much more affordable for us now.
The data still disagrees with you, but you are of course entitled to your opinion. :-) Americans have significantly higher levels of collectiveness/national unity. Canada is virtually a non-place.
