I won’t stop saying it until for-profit land-lording is abolished like slavery:
Land-lorders will not stop until they are stopped.
Land-lording is just monopolizing land in order to extract profit under the threat of homelessness.
It’s the very definition of a coercive protection racket.
It’s a feudal injustice that needs to be slayed like a dragon.
Because here’s what happens if we don’t:
Society ends.
It literally dies.
Resource-hoarders have taken down entire civilizations before — ancient Rome, imperial Russia, the French aristocracy, the list goes on and on — and our elites are doing it to ours as we speak.
How does land-lording destroy society, exactly?
Because exploitation compounds.
A landlord takes their rental profits and capital gains and uses them to buy more property.
These small-timers are bought out by regional landlords.
Who are bought out by national landlords.
Who are bought out by $10+ trillion asset manager monopolies like Blackrock.
This process will continue until a handful of companies own the entire world’s housing stock. (Three funds already own nearly 25% of all US companies.)
Instead of owning homes for 2X the median single-earner salary, renting a crap unit will cost multiple incomes.
It already does in most major cities.
Like lemmings getting bulldozed off a cliff, skyrocketing rents are pushing more people past housing hardship into homelessness.
This creates all sorts of alternative shelter arrangements for people desperate to keep a roof over their heads.
We went from owned homes…
to rented homes…
to rented apartments…
to shared flats…
to mobile homes…
to trailers…
and now…
tents.
This gem’s landlord is a hostel in a “posh” area of Australia.
It’s $250/week… $1000 post-tax per month
… and it’s a SHARED tent.
This is what happens when you “let the free market” decide.
What lying landlords won’t tell you is that it’s not possible to have a free market for real estate because all land is monopolized and the buyers and sellers are not truly equal or genuinely free.
The game is corrupt and tilted entirely in favor of the land-hoarders.
So, they raise rents.
All the other parasite landlords see the rents going up, so they raise rents, too.
Banks see units are bringing in more income, so they lend more money, which pushes up prices, which pushes out home buyers, which brings in more landlords, which keeps the whole thing spiraling to humanity-suffocating heights.
Here’s another for $1,200/month:
Here’s another, but with a shed roof on top:
If you think renting shared tents is as low as landlords can go…
Think again!
It can and will get worse from here.
How do I know?
Because it already has.
Here’s a New York seven-cent lodging house in the 1880s:
Looks a lot like Auschwitz, doesn’t it?
Can’t afford the seven cents for a bed off the floor?
Here are some of the Salvation Army’s four-penny coffins:
Can’t afford four pennies?
Try a two-penny hangover:
Can’t afford two pennies?
Try the one-penny situp:
Anyone caught sleeping while sitting up all night was immediately kicked out of the shelter.
Friends, there’s a reason landlords end up in Dante’s fourth circle of hell.
Elites are already lobbying cities to make it illegal to live in cars.
There are already vampire apps that let people rent out their driveways.
In our lifetime, millions of people will be paying rent just to park and live in their vehicles.
There is a 100% chance that homeless people will eventually be charged rent for sleeping on the streets.
After that comes slavery — perhaps not the black Antebellum kind, but certainly debt peonage and jail labor.
And all of this pain and suffering because land and resources that were once common to all were stolen and monopolized as a legal fiction called “private property.”
It’s the original economic sin, and no society will ever see the end of poverty until it goes to the root.
Are you getting it now?
Why aren’t pastors bellowing from pulpits about this?
Why aren’t the woke mobs fighting against this injustice?
Why aren’t freedom-loving right-wingers howling in protest?
Why is the whole world silent about the economic corruption that underpins the entire global economy?
It’s because most people — certainly voters — are directly profiting from it.
They own banking and real estate stocks and bonds and REIT shares in their pension funds and retirement portfolios, if not hoarding rental properties outright.
They use Airbnb with impunity.
They turn a blind eye to the homeless and worship the billionaire capital-colonizers.
They worship at the altar of Mammon, upon which our civilization is slowly being drained of its lifeblood to enrich the already-richest people in human history.
Renting tent-shares is not the end.
It’s barely the beginning.
More restrictions on camping in public areas give opportunities to those who profit from homelessness. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/dec/27/homelessness-rising-2024?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1DyJQNYnvX3oIuMxwwy65EkZAo3odecnPVG77P_RitO_E919iuyokbw88_aem_5ivxF1OQhb2XunfFV9mkvw
